Cho Oyu Expedition

Overview

Cho Oyu, at an elevation of 8,188 meters (26,864 feet), is the sixth highest mountain in the world. The Cho Oyu expedition is one of the less technical yet thrilling expeditions in Nepal. Cho Oyu, also known as “Turquoise Goddess,” is situated on the border between Nepal and Tibet. This expedition is ideal for those mountaineers who attempt to summit their first eight-thousand-meter peak. The views of Himalayan peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and others, are breathtaking.

The fact that Cho Oyu is a moderately technical peak doesn't lessen the difficulty you'll encounter there. This expedition demands good skill and knowledge on climbing tools, endurance, and better acclimatisation to ensure a successful climb. Like any other high-altitude expedition, the Cho Oyu expedition requires proper planning, preparing all the procurement for necessary permits, and highly experienced guides for help.

The traditional northwest ridge route from the Tibetan side is the most common route. This side is more preferred because the route follows a straight climb and also offers spectacular vistas. The actual climb starts as you reach the Cho Oyu Base Camp. From there, you will climb to the Advance Base Camps, progressing ahead. The climbing route is covered with snow slopes, ice, and rock sections. To ensure safety, we use fixed ropes in some sections. Oxygen will be provided. While sleeping in high camps and climbing, our team of sherpas will assist you with loads and other necessary preparations.

This high-altitude expedition requires careful planning and preparation, which include the procurement of the necessary Cho Oyu permits, the assistance of highly experienced guides, and the right gear to tackle this immense challenge. With the right team and sufficient training, this journey offers climbers an unforgettable experience, standing on top of one of the world's highest peaks. We have designed an itinerary with extra days to ensure safety and proper acclimatisation during the climb.

Trip Pokhara, with an expert and experienced team, is ready to help you with all kinds of documentation and other assistance you will require to make your climb successful and memorable.
