Useful Information

A Tandem Paragliding Flight in Pokhara, Nepal, is an incredible adventure offering a bird's-eye view of some of the world’s most stunning landscapes. If you’re planning to experience this thrilling activity, here’s some essential additional information to help you get the most out of your flight and ensure a safe, unforgettable experience.

The best time to book your Tandem Paragliding flight in Pokhara is during the autumn and spring seasons. Here's why:

Autumn (September-November):

  • Clear skies and calm weather provide optimal flying conditions.
  • Perfect visibility of the Annapurna Range, Machhapuchhre, and Pokhara Valley.

Spring (March-May):

  • Mild temperatures and calm winds create ideal conditions for a smooth flight.
  • Flowers bloom, adding beauty to the scenery.

Monsoon (June-August):

  • Heavy rains and strong winds make this season unsuitable for paragliding.
  • Flight cancellations and delays are more likely during this period.

Winter (December-February):

  • Though the skies are often clear, the cold temperatures at high altitudes may make the experience uncomfortable for some.

The cost of Tandem Paragliding flights in Pokhara can vary depending on the operator, flight duration, and the season. Here’s a breakdown of the typical pricing:

  • Short Flights (15-20 minutes): Approximately USD 70-100 per person.
  • Longer Flights (30-40 minutes): Around USD 120-150 per person.

The cost often includes:

  • Safety gear (helmet, harness, etc.)
  • Experienced pilot to guide your flight
  • Transport from your hotel to the launch site

Note: Prices can fluctuate depending on seasonality, so it’s recommended to book in advance during peak times.

Although Tandem Paragliding doesn’t require a trekking permit, there are certain local regulations to be aware of:

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Approval:

  • All operators must be licensed by CAAN to ensure safety and compliance with local laws.
  • The pilot must hold a valid paragliding license.

Local Permits:

  • Some areas, especially around Sarangkot, require permission from local authorities to fly.
  • Pokhara Municipal or Sarangkot authorities may provide necessary permits.

For the best experience and comfort, make sure to wear and bring the following:

What to Wear:

  • Comfortable, lightweight clothing (avoid tight or restrictive attire).
  • Closed-toe shoes like sneakers or hiking boots (no sandals or flip-flops).
  • Warm jacket or sweater, especially if you're flying early in the morning when the air can be cooler.

What to Bring:

  • Sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays at high altitudes.
  • Camera or GoPro: Many operators offer GoPro rentals to capture the flight, but you can also bring your own.
  • Water: Stay hydrated before and after the flight.

Safety is paramount when flying. Some of the key safety measures include:

Experienced Pilots:

  • Licensed, trained pilots from registered operators ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Equipment:

  • All paragliding gear (harness, helmet, reserve parachute) is provided and regularly checked for maintenance and safety.
  • Emergency procedures: Pilots are well-trained in emergency protocols and carry safety equipment.

Weather Conditions:

  • Flights are only scheduled in optimal weather conditions (calm winds, clear skies). In case of unfavorable weather, your flight may be postponed or canceled.

For Tandem Paragliding, there are certain weight and age requirements to ensure safety and comfort.

Weight Limit:

  • Typically, the weight limit ranges from 35 kg (77 lbs) to 100 kg (220 lbs).
  • If you are unsure, check with your operator before booking.

Age Limit:

  • Children must usually be at least 5-10 years old to fly, depending on the operator.
  • Older adults should be in good health to handle the high-altitude flight.

While some operators may provide basic insurance coverage for the flight, it is strongly recommended to have comprehensive travel insurance that includes adventure sports like paragliding. This ensures that you're protected in the unlikely event of an emergency or injury.

Flights may be canceled or rescheduled due to bad weather, including high winds, rain, or low visibility. If this happens:

  • The operator will usually try to reschedule the flight for a later time or day.
  • If you're on a tight schedule, most companies will provide a refund or alternative options.

Tandem paragliding is generally suitable for most healthy individuals. However, it may not be recommended for people with:

  • Heart conditions or severe dizziness issues.
  • Pregnancy (consult a doctor before booking).
  • Severe mobility impairments that prevent them from participating in the pre-flight safety briefing or getting in and out of the harness.

If you’re unsure about whether it’s safe for you, consult with the operator or your doctor beforehand.
